My Velvet Holiday: A Blogger Link-Up

The holidays are all about bringing people together and that is no exception when it comes to our little blogging and Instagram community. Even during the holidays I am constantly inspired by the beautifully ladies that I am privileged to call my friends. While we inspire one another, we are also inspired by the beautiful clothes of the holidays. The lace, the leather, and the velvet. The velvet has been my favorite this season and I know that is true for many people. It is because of this that have teamed up with some of my favorite blogger babes to share how we are styling velvet this holiday season. First up, my styling of this velvet kimono.

I have been all over the velvet trend this holiday season. It is so fun and instantly adds a touch of glam to any outfit. It reminds of my childhood,  growing up in the 90s, and my first velvet top from The Limited Too. I have purchased a lot of velvet this season. From booties, to tops, to handbags, I have probably gotten every item of clothing in velvet. One of my favorite purchases , though, was this velvet kimono from Forever 21. It is such a fun piece that can easily be layered over so many things. The color is unexpected and gives you a sense of warmth and it was a steal of a deal!

I paired the kimono with this gorgeous embroidered skirt. I really felt like the color of the kimono brought out the colors in the skirt. The skirt was purchased at a cute little boutique in Asheville, NC and it has the most amazing details. The embroidery, the pom-pom trim, it is such a stand out piece that can easily be dressed up or down. Being the pattern lover that I am, I paired it with a striped shirt for a little pattern-mixing. I also added the perfect over-the-knee boots and a fun Kendra Scott necklace.

The great thing about velvet is that there really is a something for everyone. It is such a popular trend that you can wear as little or as much as you like. With literally velvet available in every store, you can find something for any event or outfit that you need. I will link all of the pieces from my outfit as well as some of my favorite velvet pieces. I also encourage you to scroll down and check out how some of my Blogger Friends styled their velvet pieces. Mrs. New Bootie

Every season, I pick a few of the must-have trends that I need to add to my wardrobe. This fall, one of those trends was the over-the-knee boot.

While I own a lot of boots, I have been loving the boots that cinch over-the-knee for a more fitted look. I looked at quite a few stores, dragging my husband around to get his opinion. I really wanted a good neutral color that I could wear with a lot of different options. Luckily, when I walked into my local DSW, these grey stunners caught my eye. I tried them on and I was sold. My husband even liked them!

After wearing them for a full day I can tell you that they stayed tied and cinched and I had very little problem with them slipping. While it did not slip somewhat throughout the day, I was very pleased with how well they stayed up on my leg.

Since I really wanted the boots to be the highlight of my outfit, I opted for this adorable skirt. While this skirt is from last year, I found an almost identical option for a steal that I will link for you below. I sized up in the skirt so it would sit lower on my waist and be a little longer. My legs are very long and the super mini does not work when you are chasing around a very active toddler. I finished off my look with a basic white button-up and one of my favorite blazers from my local Goodwill. If you have not checked out my blog post for shopping for blazers at Goodwill then you are missing out! This is one of my favorite items to shop at Goodwill for and I love that I am adding a staple to my wardrobe while helping my community.

I firmly believe that accessories can make an outfit and my accessories are definitely not an exception to this rule. While my belt and bag both look like they could be more expensive, they are actually amazing dupes! I will admit that I absolutely love a good designer find. I have a bucket list of designer items that I hope to own one day. Until I am able, though, I love finding items that look more expensive but are well within my budget. I will link my belt and bag and you definitely need to snag them while they are still available.

What trends are you loving this fall? Anything that you are hoping to add to your wardrobe? I have a few more exciting pieces to share with  you over the coming weeks so definitely check back! And leave me a comment! I love hearing from you!

If It’s Not Moving, Monogram It!

Hello November!

Welcome to the month of good food, good family, good friends and good clothes!

Good clothes? Heck yes!

Here in South Georgia, it is pretty much hot all year long. Luckily, once November finally roles around, we get a break in the heat. It may only be for a day or two, but we embrace those days with cozy sweaters, warm scarves and cute boots! One of my favorite places to shop for all of these cold weather basics is Marley Lilly.

As a true Southern Girl, I firmly stand behind Reese Witherspoon’s motto, My rule is, if it’s not movingmonogram it! Marley Lilly also stand firm on this motto and offers an entire website of monorammable goodies. Whether you are looking for a cozy sweater, a warm scarf, or cute boots, they have everything for your cold weather needs.

On a recent trip to the mountains of North Carolina, I was grateful to have my Marley Lilly goodies to wear to keep warm. My current favorite is this amazing Monogrammed Boyfriend Sweater. It is so cozy and I love the oversized feel. It was perfect to wear with my favorite leggings and a basic tank. It would also be adorable with a pair of skinny jeans and boots. To stay with my monogrammed theme, I paired my sweater with my Monogrammed Duck Boots. They were beyond comfortable and looked super cute with a pair of thick knee socks pushed down.

I encourage you to check out their site and see what other mongrammed beauties they have to offer! I already have a cart full of goodies that I cannot wait to order! This Mom is going to be monogrammed and ready for any cool weather that comes our way! I have linked a few of my favorites for you to check out:

Dressing for Fall in the South

You guys! I woke up this morning and it was chilly! And not just chilly, it was in the 50s! For Savannah, that is something to celebrate.

This has been the hottest fall that I can remember. Lately, the temperatures have been in the 90’s with the heat index being over 100! I tried dressing my daughter cute for the Pumpkin Patch and she was sweating. Her little cheeks were so red and I felt terrible.

I have come to accept the fact that I live in the armpit of the United States and, unfortunately, our weather is never really going to cooperate. Because of this, I have learned to make the best of the warm temps.

When I first saw this kimono, I was obsessed. I loved the fact that it would allow me to layer in our hotter fall temperatures. I love layering because it gives off fall vibes but it can easily be adapted to your climate. In Savannah, I need lightweight, breathable layers to keep my cool in our humid environment. While this kimono looks heavy, it is actually a very lightweight material. The billowy sleeves allow my skin to breathe and my fall-loving soul is happy for a day.

Another great thing about a warmer fall is the fact that you can still incorporate bright colors into your wardrobe. When I think of fall colors I picture rich jewel tones and neutral shades. A warmer climate means you can easily sneak bright color into the mix and still look like you are dressing for the season.

And while I firmly believe that there really is no rules when it comes to fashion, a warmer fall means that it is totally acceptable to wear white as long as possible. I have never been one to follow fashion rules, but a lot of people really do follow the “No white after Labor Day” rule. Here in the south, the heat allows for white to be incorporated into your outfits for much longer, and that is a trend that I fully support.

Honestly, no matter where it is that you live, I firmly believe that you should wear what makes you happy. If that is flip-flops in the middle of a January snow storm, then I say go for it! When you are happy about an outfit, you are going to exude confidence, and when you exude confidence, people are going to look at you and think that you look just as great as you feel! Remember, there really is no rules when it comes to fashion anymore so hold your head high and rock whatever it is that you feel like wearing!

A Cool Cardi at an Even Cooler Price

Here in South Georgia, the season may be fall but the weather definitely still thinks that it is summer.

I am beyond ready for the season of blanket scarves, boots and sweaters. I live for fall. It is my absolute favorite season! Unfortunately for me, living in South Georgia means that we really only have two seasons: unbearably hot and everything else. I love those “everything else” days when I can walk outside without melting. I love the days when I need to throw on a sweater to combat the briskness in the air and I love them even more when I need to pile on a scarf.

Alas, those days do not seem to be insight anytime soon so I will just have to find ways to dress for fall without causing my body to get overheated.

One of my favorite ways to achieve the fall look without melting is with a lightweight cardigan. The extra layers help you feel my appropriate for the season but the the lighter material allows for a more breathable outfit. I was so excited when I found this long cardigan from SheIn because it gave me everything that I needed for early fall days in South Georgia. The material is very lightweight and can easily be thrown over a tank or a shirt. For this look I chose a tank. It was a rather hot day and a tank was necessary in Savannah. I paired it with my favorite black skinnies, the cutest sandals (that are actually quite comfortable), and a fun handbag and pair of earrings. Best part of this outfit? The prices!

You read write! The prices are the best part of this outfit! My skinnies were on sale for less than $17, my shoes were only $20, my tank was less than $10 AND this cardigan was only $11! Say what??!! Seriously guys, if you are not shopping SheIn then you are seriously missing out. It is one of my favorite places to shop for fun, trendy pieces at a great price. Considering the items ship from out of the country, shipping is actually very fast. The one piece of advice that I would offer is to read the comments and check the size charts. Customers are great about giving comments about the fit of items and material. The size charts give you exact measurements and help tremendously. The size chart varies with each item so it is imperative that you read the chart for each item, but it has always helped me order my correct size.

Embroidered Jacket DIY

Embroidery was huge this summer and I could not get enough of the trend. It was so perfectly boho chic and gave the perfect detail to any outfit. I was so excited to see that this trend is carrying over to the fall.

One of the things that I wanted the most for the fall was an embroidered jacket. I have seen them all over the magazines and in my favorite stores, but most of them boasted a very hefty price tag. I couldn’t justify spending that much on a piece of clothing that was essentially a trend so I decided to take matters into my own hands!

While perusing the racks of my local Goodwill, I came across the most perfect denim jacket and it was right there that my plan began to unfold. I was going to make my own embroidered denim jacket!

I did a little digging on the internet and after pricing a couple of different websites, I realized that I was going to get the best deal on eBay. I was able to refine my search to the price that I was willing to pay, as well as buyers that were offering free shipping. I decided to go with a flower theme so I chose quite a few different flower designs, as well as a bee and a bird. My favorite patch was a giant cherry blossom branch that was going to serve as the start of my vision.

If you decide to make your own jacket, I strongly encourage you to lay out your design before you secure you it on your jacket. I laid out exactly how I wanted it to look and then took a picture on my phone for reference. Once I decided exactly how I want my jacket to look, I started to secure the patches.

Almost all of the patches that I ordered were iron-on but I really wanted to make sure everything was firmly secured on the jacket. I used E6000 craft glue to glue every patch onto the jacket. Then, after I had let the glue dry, I went back over the patches with an iron to further bond the patches to the fabric.

After I had the main patch secured, I carefully layered the other patches to achieve the design I desired. I would glue a small section a time, making sure that I secured all edges. I focused the patches on one corner of the back of the jacket but I made sure to do little pops on the opposite corner, the front of the jacket, even the sleeve!

If you want me one of your own, I suggest doing one side, let it dry, then do the other side. I completed the back first and then let that dry for about 24 hours. Once I was sure it was dry, I flipped it over and completed the front and the sleeve. Because I achieved the design by layering patches, I wanted to make sure that was no chance of any patch slipping. They only way to ensure this was if everything was completely dry. After both sides had completely dried, I covered the patches with a towel and ironed over them, furthering their seal even more. I also turned the jacket inside out and went over the back of the patches, making sure that I had a good bond.

And that’s it!

It was truly an easy and affordably DIY! The hardest part was waiting the 24 hours for the glue to dry. While I have seen these jackets for upwards of $300, the total cost for this project was less than $25!

Best Part? It was completely unique, definitely one-of-a-kind, and perfectly tailored to fit my personality. Also, since I shopped at Goodwill, I was giving back to my community, and that is definitely shopping for a good cause!

I can’t wait to style this fun piece all season long! Please let me know if you decide to make one of your own! I always love to hear from you and would especially love to see your finished product!
