Hello my Beautiful Friends! Life has been so absolutely crazy lately and I just wanted to take the time to fill all of you in!

Savannah Mom Blogger, Being Mrs. Fowler, styles a Members Only Jacket, mom style, teacher style, modest style, casual outfit

First up, I am done with school for the summer! Teaching is hard and definitely a stressful job so I always look forward to those few weeks in the summer when I can take some time for myself. We have a family vacation to Disney planned in just one short week, we are planning to go to Charleston for my birthday, and I am hoping that we can squeeze in weekend trip to Gatlinburg. I will also be majorly catching up on my blog, all 11 drafts that I have in progress, and planning out new centers for my classroom. I may have 7 weeks off, but I will be busy for most of those!

Another exciting change is that we sold out house! We are currently living with my parents while our dream house is being built. We will finally have some extra, much needed space, and I will have a closet room! Stay tuned for some fun updates on the house and full post on how I edit and organize my closet room. As of last week the foundation had been poured and the frame had been built. Next step is insulation and dry wall! We meet with our builders the first week of June and I we will hopefully find out our closing date. This is such exciting time in our lives and I cannot wait to see what exciting things are still coming in our future.

Vivi is growing like a weed and has developed the cutest little personality. She is very particular about what she likes and is not afraid to tell you “No!” She has an obsession with all things tiny so at any given time our floors are covered with Shopkins, Hatchimals and LOL Dolls. She has also discovered “Cookie Swirl C” videos on YouTube. Those videos are both annoying and extremely addicting! I find myself being sucked in wondering what Shopkins she is going to get in her blind bag or if her LOL Doll will be a limited edition. Clearly I missed my calling in life and should be making videos of unwrapping Shopkins my profession.

It is also getting so much warmer here in Savannah. I feel like we went straight from Winter to Summer. We are already seeing temperatures in the nineties so I know that it is going to be a long, hot summer. The plus side is that I have been able to pull out all of my cute dresses, off the shoulder tops, and fun sandals. I am loving all of the trends for this spring and summer. They are making my inner 90s girl so happy. Give me all of the wide leg, high waisted jeans and platform sandals!

This outfit was from earlier in the spring before the temperatures got significantly higher. I love this light-weight Members Only jacket and feel like it will be great for cooler summer nights. The fact that Members Only is still around making classic jackets also makes my inner 90s girl so happy! The pink color is a fun touch and I love how it gives a more casual vibe to my outfit. I paired it with one of my favorite pairs of jeans, the cutest blush mules, and a comfy tunic. To finish off the look, I added sunglasses, a pair of fun earrings, and my absolute favorite clutch from the Studio DIY Can’t Clutch This subscription. I mean a Toaster Pastry Clutch? Yes Please!

I am really hoping to get on a schedule, or at least catch up, on my blog this summer so if there is anything that you want to see or hear about, please do not hesitate to let me know! I always love to hear from you! I will also have a series of posts after my Disney trip so let me know what you want to hear about and I will be sure to snap the right pictures or uncover the right secrets! I am also planning my first video tutorial so if you have any filming or video tips, please let me know!

I hope you all have a great start to your summer and that you are making the most of every moment! Thank you for being such amazing followers! I appreciate all of you more than you know!

Field Frolicking and Planning for the Future

Savannah, Georgia Life and Style Blogger, Being Mrs. Fowler, Styles an Old Navy Floral Dress with a Shein Fur Blazer, while preparing for retirement with Benedetti, Gucer, and Associates, mom style, spring outfit, fall outfit, budget friendly

Whether your retirement is a couple of years or a couple of decades away, it is never too early, or too late, to start dreaming about and preparing for it. Traditionally, retirement planning has focused on saving money and building financial security. However, studies have found that having a vision for the future and planning for that vision are as important as money in achieving a fulfilling retirement experience.

Retirement satisfaction is typically linked to several factors: having a clear vision of retirement goals, early financial planning, continued engagement, and activity throughout retirement, financial preparation and professional advice.

The importance of planning for a meaningful retirement has increased as life expectancy has improved. According to an Actuarial statistics study*, the baby boomer generation is expected to live longer than any previous generation. In fact, it is anticipated that over half of the people alive today will likely live to be 82 years or older. When you consider even further advancements in modern medicine that will affect Generation Xers and Millennials in their old age, it is likely that people will be living a lot longer than previously thought possible. Unlike their elders, many people can look forward to living for several decades – as opposed to several years – in retirement.  (*Source: Life Tables for the United States Social Security Area 1900-2100. Actuarial Study No. 116 by Felicitie C. Bell and Michael L. Miller.)

While most people would agree that envisioning their retirement dreams is an important part of planning for the future, many of us may not know where to start or how to do it. One often overlooked suggestion involves writing down your vision for the ideal Retirement. It is based on the premise that those who write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them.

Written goals are much more concrete and tangible. In order to write them down, you are forced to think through the details. And, the simple act of writing down your goals adds a certain level of accountability. This is a technique that has been used by entrepreneurs from Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich) to Daymond John from NBC’s Shark Tank. Once your goals are on paper, they are out there for the world to see, and there is no going back.

By answering thought-provoking questions about your individual vision and passions, you will uncover the attitudes, values and aspirations that drive your unique goals. This can help you develop a “retirement roadmap” in order to prepare both emotionally and financially for your future. During retirement, you can use these same questions to re-envision and re-evaluate your goals as you consider your experiences, challenges and worries as a retiree. The questions below can help you get clarity around your goals and dreams, and ultimately allow you to identify the necessary steps to get you there.

  • What do you look forward to doing in retirement? – Possibilities to explore include spending time with family and friends, going back to school, doing volunteer work, starting a new business, staying healthy and fit, and traveling.
  • Where do you dream of going? – Consider possible destinations and activities, how you would like to travel, how much traveling you would like to do and who you would like to travel with.
  • Where do you see yourself living? – Where you live significantly impacts your costs in retirement. Do you want to be part of a community? Do you want to try a new climate or lifestyle? Do you want to live in multiple locations? Consider whether you want to stay close to your current home, move closer to family, or relocate near activities you love.
  • How do you want to make your lasting mark? – Your legacy is what is important to you and what you want to pass on to others. Leaving a legacy can mean many things including passing on your assets, your values or the lessons you’ve learned. Consider what gives you a sense of satisfaction and how you can have a lasting impact.

After you have explored your dreams for retirement, you will want to consider how to turn those dreams into reality. Working with a financial planner can help you with your retirement vision. Research has shown that people who seek help from an advisor are generally more positive in their outlook for retirement. Having a written financial plan is one of the likely reasons for this.

Fulfillment in retirement is not just about getting the money right; it’s about having a vision, remaining connected to community and living your dream. Consider working with the Atlanta Wealth Management Firm of Benedetti, Gucer & Associates. They can help you envision your retirement lifestyle and create a financial plan to attain that goal.

oppenheimerFunds

With all of that taken care of, you can do less worrying about the future and more frolicking through the fields. I don’t know about you, but I would choose field frolicking any day over worry!

What happens when you have 5 mothers, one of which is an amazing photographer, spend the morning at Target, completely child free?

You let loose, have fun, and create the most epic photo shoot!

It is no secret that Moms love Target. Who am I kidding? It’s not just Moms! Everyone loves Target! But seriously, every Mom that I know loves the store that is so often referred to as The Mothership. Those red shopping carts are a sign of love and passion. As soon as you walk in the door, that passion takes over, and just for an hour, sometimes two or three, you can escape all of your worries perusing the aisles of the most addictive store in the United States. With the smell of Starbucks in the air, you know that you are home, and soon enough your cart will be filled with shoes, clothes, and throw pillows that you didn’t realize just how much you needed in your life.

For me, I have my Target trips down to a science. I am immediately sucked in by The Dollar Spot and from there, it is all down hill, but in a good way. I can spend an hour going through $3 succulent planters and $1 stationary packs trying to find just the perfect piece for my home or desk. They also have great stuff for Vivi, most of which is usually $1, so I can keep her entertained while I shop. After The Dollar Spot, we make a quick stop at Starbucks for coffee and cake pops, and then we are ready to take on the store. I head straight to the clothes and spend a majority of my time looking through racks, taking mirror selfies and trying on items. I then hit the shoes and accessories, because I clearly need a complete outfit, and stock up on the cutest pieces. After that it is makeup and hair products (Can we say Kristen Ess?) and I finish up my trip with coffee mugs and groceries. I bribe Vivi with a quick trip down the Shopkins aisle and three hours, and $300 later, we are done!

That, however, is a typical Target trip. What happens when it is not so typical, kid-free, and you are accompanied by some of your best girl friends? You become a kid again and have the most epic Target trip you could ever imagine. Kicking back on all the plush chairs and throw pillows, taking selfies with all the coffee mugs, having conversation at the patio furniture, and trying on all of the clothes and shoes. Don’t forget to add in lots of wine, buggy rides, and an enormous amount of laughing, and you literally have the most perfect Target trip this Mom has ever had.

This trip is every Mom’s dream. Target is our playground and that is how it has earned the name The Mothership. It has everything we need and everything we didn’t know that we needed. A golden weenie dog tape dispenser? You totally need that! (And I actually have that!) An adorable pen mug with a face? How have you been living without it? Another graphic tee about guacamole? Get in my cart now! Target just gets women, and for that, it will forever hold a special place in my heart!

If you have not done it lately, I highly encourage you to go to Target with your girlfriends, completely kid-free, and just have fun! It was such an amazing day and was exactly what this tired Momma needed. Find your tribe and love them hard, especially when they are willing to act like fools with you at Target!

I hope you enjoyed this epic shoot as much as we did. Life is too short not to have fun every once and while, especially when that fun is at The Mothership. Here is to a morning with girlfriends, a Venti Starbucks, and a newly filled Dollar Spot!

The Grove: A New Savannah Staple

Savannah Mom Blogger, Being Mrs. Fowler, visits new Savannah restaurant and nightlife hot spot, The Grove

One of my favorite things about Savannah is all of the yummy, local cuisine. We have a lot of truly amazing restaurants that feature unique dishes, friendly atmospheres, and some great views of the city. Our newest addition, The Grove, is no exception and is already making waves in our little community.

Over my Spring Break I called up my sweet friend Amy Darley of the YouTube channel Team Darley to see if she wanted to join me for lunch. She had been eager to try it out as well so we met on a Thursday for lunch with an open mind and empty bellies. We were immediately blown away by the building. It is striking and modern with crisp white, black pops, and lots of doors and windows. On nice days you can find all of the doors open making the atmosphere even more inviting. One of the first things that you are sure to notice is the tiled floor. It has quickly become one of the most Instagrammed spots in Savannah and it is easy to see why. It pulls you into the building and just encourages you to pull up a seat and stay for a while.

When we visited they were still operating on an abbreviated menu. We quickly made our choices and then sat back to enjoy the ambiance and architecture. We both knew that we wanted to get the Honey Drizzled Fries. It with just the right amount of sweetness mixed with a hint of jalapeno, creating the perfect glaze on a salty and crisp french fry. I could have probably eaten my weight in them! For my meal I got the Savannah Salad. It was light, refreshing and made complete by the tastiest candied pecans. Truly a southern staple. Amy selected The Grove Burger and she said that it was so good. We both cleaned our plates, a sure sign that the food was delicious!

Now that the full menu is complete, I personally cannot wait to head back and taste the Low Country Kale, Forsyth Fried Okra, and the Veggie Burger!

After we finished our meal, we took a tour of the building. The restaurant consists of three stories. The first flour was the main dining room where we ate. There is a large bar area in the main dining room, but there is also a second bar area off the side of the restaurant. This bar area has large doors that are opened up to City Market on nice days. There is also outdoor seating so you can enjoy your meal while taking in the hustle and bustle of City Market. The second floor was a space that was available to use for meeting and parties. It housed large, comfy chairs, a bar area, and a large table with plenty of seating. The final floor was the rooftop bar and it is definitely the shining star of the entire restaurant. Large doors are opened out onto the deck with a perfect view overlooking City Market. There is a bar, comfy couch style seating and high-top tables. This is sure to become one of the busiest spots for Savannah night life and I cannot wait to head up there for Date Night and drinks with my husband in the very near future.

The Grove truly is the perfect addition to our charming little town. It is located in a central location and has something to meet all the needs of its guests. Whether you are dining with your family (I brought Vivi with me!), hanging out with girlfriends, or just enjoying a Date Night, The Grove is the perfect place to enjoy a great meal in the perfect atmosphere. If you are local, be sure to stop in and check it out, and if you are a visiting then you definitely need to add it to your to-do list! Either way, be sure to tell them that Being Mrs. Fowler sent you! I promise that you will not be disappointed!

In the heart of downtown Savannah, nestled among the Oak Trees and Spanish Moss, on the ever busy Broughton Street, just down from H&M, you can find one of the cutest little boutiques, The Impeccable Pig. This little company was started by a mother and daughter team out of Texas and now boasts 21 stores throughout the Southeast, as well as a very successful online presence.

LuLu Off the Shoulder Crop Top

I have to be honest. I only started shopping with them in the last year but once I stepped foot inside, I was hooked. It is a small store so it feels homey and welcoming. The staff is cheerful and inviting, and the adorable clothes and great price points keep you coming back for more. After a lot of chatting back and forth with the store manager, Taylor, we were finally able to put together a Blogger’s Night Out to celebrate the fabulous ladies of Savannah. This Thursday, March 29th, from 6-8pm, join us for a night of sweets and sales. Come shop all of the cute, new spring arrivals for 20% off and enjoy a selection of snacks while you shop. The best part is that I will be there all night to help you pick out outfits, put together pieces and just socialize. I am so excited to meet with all of the fabulous ladies of Savannah and I know it is going to be a great night!

Relax and Unwind

Let’s be honest. Most weeks I go non-stop and have little to no time to stop. I wake up at 5:30am, pack lunches, pack bags, load Vivi in the car, head to work, teach all day, attend staff meetings, write lesson plans, grade papers, tutor after school, squeeze in doctor’s appointments, attend blogger events, schedule playdates, grocery shop, cook dinner, wash dishes, wash clothes, clean house, take care of Vivi, write blog posts, have pictures taken, edit photos, post on social media, respond to comments on social media and FINALLY get to bed only to do it all over again… Are you tired from reading that because I know I am worn out from living that life!

IMG_4515

In the world of blogging, especially when it is not your full time job, we are notorious for stretching ourselves thin. We try to find a healthy balance but we still are often times squeezing more than we should on our plates. It is natural for things to fall off the edges. I don’t know if you noticed, but in my incredibly long list of weekly activities, I made no mention of personal care or “me time.” This is because that is usually the first thing to be cut off my overflowing plate. When prioritizing, I generally put myself last, which really is not good for my life, my health, or my sanity. Here lately I am realizing the importance of self-care and taking just a little time to do something for myself. When I take that time I am more rested, in a better mood, and more productive. It makes for a much happier Megan who is much more pleasant to be around. I get more things than done and definitely am better with time management.

So how am I taking more time for myself? It is little things here and there that I want to share with you all and encourage you to implement into your own life. I can promise that with a little self-care, you will feel like a new woman (or man!) and be a much more productive version of yourself!

Make Time for a Little Pampering

Sometimes it is nice to just sit back and let someone else take care of you. Whether you are getting a manicure and pedicure, indulging in a massage, or just getting a much needed hair cut, a little pamper session can do wonders. For me, especially now that it is warmer, I take the time to go and get pedicures. I usually grab one of my besties, drop Vivi off with one of her Grandparents, pick up a Starbucks and just sit back and relax. I pay extra for the longer foot massage and hot towels because my busy feet deserve the break. I gossip about life events, scroll through social media, and just focus on anything but my busy schedule. It is so nice to just be able to turn off my running my mind for an hour. I try to go every two weeks but if that is not possible then I definitely go once a month. It also has the bonus of giving me super cute toes all through sandal season.

I also am a member of the Southern Sugaring Sugar Society. With this monthly membership I am able to go get a Brazilian and an eye brow wax every month. It may be TMI but it is so nice to not have to worry about that little detail. I consider the girls at the salon my friends and I love drinking my wine, catching up with them, and taking care of all that unwanted hair! If you are local to the Savannah area I highly encourage you booking an appointment with Tiffani or Jessica. They are both fabulous, wonderful ladies who I love! Make sure to tell them that Being Mrs. Fowler sent you!

Lounge Around in Cute Jammies

If I am going to be spending a Saturday catching up on laundry, meal planning, and cleaning my house then I might as well be doing it in adorable jammies. Luckily I have Marley Lilly to keep me cute and comfy, complete with a perfect monogram. When my pajamas match, it just makes me feel like I have my life together. It may seem silly but I feel so much more efficient when I am doing household chores in an adorable pajama set. This set has long-sleeves with shorts which I love. It helps with my legs always being hot at night and my arms always being cold. The robe has loose, flowing sleeves so it fits easily over any pajamas. My slippers are so soft and I wear them whenever possible. They have grips on the bottom to prevent you from slipping and they are perfect for slipping into after a long day of working. I strongly encourage you to treat yourself to a comfy, matching pajama set and I can promise that you will feel much more glamorous as you take care of those household chores!

Netflix and Chill

When this phrase first started I was not exactly sure what it meant, and still don’t really, but for me, it means exactly what it says. I watch a whole lot of Netflix and do not do much of anything else. When I have the time. I love taking the day to watch an entire series on repeat. I will sit in the same spot for hours watching episode after episode of all the shows that I have missed while going non-stop. It is so nice to do absolutely nothing. My mind can shut off and travel to a different place. I can be in the ER with Meredith Grey, saving Storybrooke with Emma Swan, or fighting the bad guys with Eleven, all from the comfort of my very comfy couch. I do not do it often, but when I am able, it is so nice to sit their all day, eating my snacks, sipping my wine, and informing Netflix multiple times, “Yes! I am still watching!” Here are my Top 5 Favorite shows to binge currently on Netflix:

1. Grey’s Anatomy

2. Pretty Little Liars

3. Stranger Things

4. Fuller House

5. Once Upon a Time

While I cannot do it as much as I like, my absolute favorite way to relax and unwind is with a little retail therapy. If you have been following my blog for a while then you know that I absolutely love shopping! I don’t care if it is shopping online or shopping at the mall. I love it all. I love the smell of new shoes, the crinkle of shopping bags, and the way it feels to pop a tag off of a new shirt. Add in an ice, cold Starbucks to sip and enjoy as I shop and you have one very happy, relaxed Megan! It is so nice to be able to treat myself to something new. I work hard and I feel like I should be able to spurge every now and then. But it is not just for myself. Since I have a daughter, I love buying her new things as well. The little girl clothes are so cute and she gets just as excited about new clothes. I also love all the fun little toys that she likes. She and I both love opening up a new pack a Shopkins and seeing what is inside! Seriously though, this is definitely not a way to relax that I encourage frequently but, I do think you should treat yourself every once and a while!

I hope that this post encourages you to take some time for yourself. Self care is so important and it is definitely something that everyone should take them time to do. We all work so hard so it is important that we reward our hard work. This allows us to refocus and become even more successful in our endeavors. Let me know how you unwind in the comments below! I always love to hear from you!

A Love Letter from Being Mrs. Fowler

I am going to be perfectly honest with you, today was rough.

My engagement has been terrible on Instagram, my students were a little on the wild side, and I am getting sick again. Second time losing my voice this year. I am just done.

In moments like this, it is so easy to get down, depressed and discouraged. I found myself dwelling on so many things that I really didn’t have control over. Things that, in the grand scheme of things, really don’t matter.

I don’t know why I care so much about little things like engagement on my Instagram posts or how many people comment on my pictures, but I do. I am only human and we live in a society that is literally run by social media. It is no wonder we get frustrated. I saw a quote today that really got my wheels spinning. It said, “Social media is training us to compare our lives, instead of appreciating everything we are. No wonder why everyone is depressed.”

Wow…

How true is that statement?

We are comparing our lives to people’s best days. To people’s perfect pictures.

Do you really think that is how their life is the majority of the time? I can promise you that their lives are not even like that on a daily basis. They are staged, brightened, smoothed and edited. And even though I know this, I still find myself comparing my life to everyone I see. I get frustrated when I don’t have as many followers, jealous of their designer handbags, and just envious of their “perfect” lives.

The great Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Again I will say it… Wow!

How easily we let ourselves forget this quote from just a truly inspirational leader. I can say this because I am constantly forgetting. I am constantly comparing myself to others. It is no wonder we get down and depressed.

So now I get to the love letter portion of this post. I am here to tell you that I think that you are enough. I think that your life is beautiful in all of its messy glory. I love your sink full of dishes, your pile of unfolded laundry, and your no-makeup face. And do you know why I love all of these things? Because my life is the same way!

Truth time!

I maybe wash clothes once a week but, more often than not, it is really like every two weeks. I wash my hair only once a week and only look decent because of dry shampoo. On an almost daily basis I put myself in bed at a decent time but don’t fall asleep until 11 because I am surfing the internet, and then I proceed to hit snooze 17 times the next morning because I am too tired to wake up. I never make up my bed and I put Vivi in bed with me on Saturday morning so she can watch cartoons while I sleep. It’s not bad parenting or bad adulting, it is just real life. A real life that, amidst all the mess, is beautiful because it is all mine.

The same can be said for you and your life. It is beautiful, in all of its messy glory, because it is all yours and nothing or no one can take that away from you. I love it and you should as well! I love everything about you and I am so thankful for your support. I love that you take time out of your busy lives to like and comment on my pictures. I love that you take the time to read my blog posts. I love that you view my Instastories. You know what? I just love you!

You are the reason why I continue to post. You are the reason why I press on. You are what makes all the hard work, time and effort so worthwhile.

This Valentine’s Day I am so thankful for you. I encourage you to show yourself a little love today because your definitely deserve it!
