A Little Bit of Christmas in the Spring: A Family Stay at The Inn at Christmas Place

Instead of heading somewhere warm for my Spring Break, my family used this opportunity to head to somewhere a bit cooler, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. If you are not familiar with the Pigeon Forge area, it is just outside of Gatlinburg and it is one of my family’s favorite vacation spots. Both my husband and I grew up visiting the area so we love coming back and experiencing it with our daughter whenever we get the chance. For this visit, we decided to stay somewhere new that we have both been wanting to visit, The Inn at Christmas Place.

The Inn at Christmas Place is the sweetest little hotel that is literally decorated for Christmas all year long. You are experiencing the spirit of Christmas every day of your visit and you can truly feel the magic of this special holiday in every aspect of the hotel. The architecture of the hotel itself brought a sense of charm to the building and you really felt like you were in a quaint little cabin. Christmas lights adorned the building and a large nativity scene sat just outside the entrance, greeting you as you turned into the parking lot. There was also a very large Christmas tree across from the front entrance that featured carolers singing. The walkway to this tree was light up at night and it definitely made for some great pictures. One of my favorite things of the entire hotel was the doormen. Dressed liked something you would see out of a movie, they were always ready to welcome you inside or wish you on your way.

Out the back door and you will find the perfect area to gather with friends. A small waterfall, plenty of seating, and fire-pits make this an incredible way to start your morning or end your evening. There was a large balcony overlooking the courtyard or you could sit and numerous chairs and benches lining the path. The little waterfall was truly picturesque and was just a great way to relax. Of course everything was decorated for Christmas, giving you plenty of photo opportunities, and sparking joy around every corner.

For our stay, we decided on the King Mini Suite. This room featured a pillowtop king bed and a full sleeper sofa. We had an in-room, two person whirlpool, that Vivi loved! We also had a gas fireplace with a fully decorated mantle and a Christmas tree. Vivi called it her “Christmas Home,” and the whole experience was just magical. Other amenities included a private balcony, refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot, and a flat screen television with a DVD player. Each afternoon, our room was cleaned and our pillows were adorned with Hershey Kisses. It was a sweet treat and something that Vivi definitely loved coming “home” to enjoy.

Of course the room that was decorated the most was the hotel lobby. The trees were immaculate, the decorations were exquisite, and the staff was just as cheerful as one of Santa’s elves. We enjoyed grabbing a hot coffee every morning on the way out, warm cider in the evening, and a cookie every night before bed. All of this could be found just by the lobby counter and was definitely a nice treat.

We loved sitting on the comfy couches and talking with the other hotel guests and we even managed to sneak in a kiss under the mistletoe. Just off the main lobby was another sitting area. It was here that you could find Santa almost every morning during breakfast talking with the children, or on some evenings hosting a sing-a-long. I think it was the addition of Santa that really evoked the spirit of Christmas at the hotel. He was truly the highlight of the entire trip

Another favorite that the hotel offered was a Deluxe Complimentary breakfast. Every morning guests can enjoy homemade omelettes, an assortment of items for a warm meal, and the tastiest cakes and pastries. Besides all of that, you could also enjoy a large yogurt bar with toppings, fruit, waffles, cereals and all the coffee and juice your belly could hold. We tried the hot meal and the omelettes and both were amazing. Vivi liked being able to have all of her usual favorites for breakfast and we just loved getting a quality meal that we did not have to buy!

We made sure to stop by and see Santa every morning after breakfast to tell him about our day and snap some pictures. There was never a wait to see him so Vivi was able to talk to him as long as she liked. He was so patient with her and always had a kind word.

The hotel also featured your typical amenities. Those included a small work out room, an indoor pool, hot tub and an outdoor pool with water slide. The outdoor pool was closed because it was still quite cold on our visit, but I did manage to grab a picture through the fence. We did enjoy the indoor pool one evening, along with the hot tub. It was the perfect way to rest our tired muscles after exploring the streets of Gatlinburg.

Besides the typical amenities, the hotel also featured a few things that were unique to the hotel. The first of those was a Scavenger Hunt. Sheets were available with pictures for you to find things all over the hotel. Once you found all the things on the list you could take it to the front desk for a treat. The Scavenger Hunt was great because it gave you the opportunity to really explore the hotel and enjoy all of the decorations. There was something fun and unique decorating every corner and the Scavenger Hunt was the perfect way to see it all. The other amenity was the opportunity to write a letter to Santa. The cutest little writing desk, complete with stationary, was available to children to write a letter to Santa. The letters could be placed in the mailbox or hand delivered to him in the lobby. Vivi chose to hand-deliver her letter and Santa promised to take care of her this Christmas.

If you ever forgot what was happening at the hotel each day, an information sheet could be found in the elevator each day. The sheet was updated daily with all important hotel information, as well as the weather report and a count down until Christmas.

I could go on and on about the magic of the season at The Inn at Christmas Place but I really think the best way to experience that magic is to plan your own family vacation. Compared to other hotels in the area, it was reasonably priced. When you take into account all that the hotel has to offer, including the deluxe complimentary breakfast, the hotel was very affordable and it is somewhere that we will stay again. There is a lot of places to stay in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area so I think that it is important to find somewhere unique to stay to make your trip that much more memorable. This is definitely the most unique hotel that we have ever stayed in the area and it really did make our entire trip even more enjoyable.

The spirit of Christmas is alive every day at The Inn at Christmas Place and we are so thankful that we were able to experience that magic first hand. This amazing hotel is the perfect place to stay whether you are a family with small children, a couple celebrating an anniversary, or even a group of girlfriends getting out of town. There is truly something for everyone and no one can resist that Christmas magic. I encourage you to consider booking a vacation and enjoy Christmas anytime of the year!

Serenity at Spa Bleu: The Ultimate Mother’s Day Gift

Local Savannah Mom Blogger, Being Mrs. Fowler, shares a review of Spa Bleu, a local spa, a perfect gift for Mother's Day

Last year for Mother’s Day, I told my sweet husband that what I wanted more than anything, was a day of pampering. He asked me where he should book the appointment and I knew right away that I wanted to go to Spa Blue.

Nestled off the corner of Broughton Street in Savannah, GA is the home of my favorite spa in the city. A short elevator ride to the second floor and I am immediately at peace. A calm, quiet atmosphere just washes my stress away, and I am immediately relaxed, if only for a few hours.

While my husband did get me a package for Mother’s Day last year, a series of unfortunate events, and the ever busy schedule of a Mom, caused me to have to continually reschedule my appointment. I was finally able to visit on my Thanksgiving Break last year, hence the Christmas decor, and it was exactly what I needed to de-stress over my break. The reason I am writing this post now is because I cannot imagine a better gift to give the mom’s in your life than a spa package. Whether they have a day job or stay home, the job of a mother never ends. There is always a dish to be washed, a lunch to be packed, laundry to be folded or a nose to be wiped. We give hugs, wipe tears, kiss boo-boos, and finally drag ourselves to bed well after the rest of the house. We deserve a day of pampering! I am not complaining. I love my life as a Mom, but it is nice to take a step back and focus on myself, if only for a few hours.

Honestly though, a spa package is a good gift for the Mom in your life on any occasion. Whether it is for Christmas, birthday, or just because, I encourage you to spoil the ladies in your life! I can promise that they will thank you!

Now that you have the perfect gift in mind, let’s get back to my spa of choice. I love Spa Bleu because it is a locally owned business that takes cares of all of your pampering needs. They are always offering some sort of special package and that is exactly what my husband took advantage of last Mother’s Day. My package included an hour massage, a facial and a pedicure. I was able to have a few hours to myself to just enjoy my services and finally relax. Besides the service that I mentioned, they also offer manicures, body wraps and scrubs, waxing, spray tanning, hair and makeup. They also have a variety of products available for purchase so you can continue your treatments even after your services have ended.

All of the staff that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting has been super helpful and knowledgeable. The took the time to talk to me, let me know about the services I would be receiving, and address any concerns that I had. I have almost always gone home with samples of products to try and I have always left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

For Mother’s Day this year, Spa Bleu is offering two packages. The first is the Mommy Dearest package. This is a 2 hour treatment package that mom is sure to enjoy. Mommy Dearest will have her choice between a one hour Swedish Relaxation Massage or Organic Skin Specific Facial. This delightful package also includes her choice of Organic Aromatherapy AND a Spa Pedicure. Mom is welcome to spend as long as she likes in the relaxation lounge after her treatments and enjoy some tea or coffee. Includes a fresh flower and spa treats!

The next package is the Mom & Me. I love this package because it is treat that you can enjoy with your Mom.  The base package allows you to relax together and spend some quality time with Mom! Both of you will receive Customized Massages with your choice of Organic Aromatherapy. You will be together the entire time. After your massage, you are welcome to take your time together in the relaxation lounge. It also includes fresh flowers and spa treats! With this package you also have the option of adding Organic Skin Specific Facials, Organic Dead Sea Salt Scrubs and a Light Lunch & Tea Service, for an additional charge.

Spa Bleu is also proud to offer a variety of products from many local businesses. You can shop products from the Savannah Bee Company, Little Barn Apothecary, Morgan Taylor, Mable Rose Candles and Votivo. Any of these options would be a perfect additional gift to add with Mom’s spa treatments!

Whether you are hoping to treat a special Mom in your life, looking for gift ideas for yourself, or just looking to treat yourself to a little pampering, I strongly encourage you to consider Spa Bleu. From the atmosphere, to the people, to the services, I enjoyed every aspect of my visit and will definitely be back. I think I may even ask the Hubs for another day of pampering this Mother’s Day. I could really use a little rest and relaxation and I know that Spa Bleu will take care of all of needs.

Mom’s Day out at The Mothership: An Epic Morning at Target

Being Mrs. Fowler, joined 4 other Savannah Mom Bloggers, to create a fun-filled Target Photoshoot, in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, with Kate Laraine Photography behind the camera, capturing the perfect Mom's Day Out

What happens when you have 5 mothers, one of which is an amazing photographer, spend the morning at Target, completely child free?

You let loose, have fun, and create the most epic photo shoot!

It is no secret that Moms love Target. Who am I kidding? It’s not just Moms! Everyone loves Target! But seriously, every Mom that I know loves the store that is so often referred to as The Mothership. Those red shopping carts are a sign of love and passion. As soon as you walk in the door, that passion takes over, and just for an hour, sometimes two or three, you can escape all of your worries perusing the aisles of the most addictive store in the United States. With the smell of Starbucks in the air, you know that you are home, and soon enough your cart will be filled with shoes, clothes, and throw pillows that you didn’t realize just how much you needed in your life.

For me, I have my Target trips down to a science. I am immediately sucked in by The Dollar Spot and from there, it is all down hill, but in a good way. I can spend an hour going through $3 succulent planters and $1 stationary packs trying to find just the perfect piece for my home or desk. They also have great stuff for Vivi, most of which is usually $1, so I can keep her entertained while I shop. After The Dollar Spot, we make a quick stop at Starbucks for coffee and cake pops, and then we are ready to take on the store. I head straight to the clothes and spend a majority of my time looking through racks, taking mirror selfies and trying on items. I then hit the shoes and accessories, because I clearly need a complete outfit, and stock up on the cutest pieces. After that it is makeup and hair products (Can we say Kristen Ess?) and I finish up my trip with coffee mugs and groceries. I bribe Vivi with a quick trip down the Shopkins aisle and three hours, and $300 later, we are done!

That, however, is a typical Target trip. What happens when it is not so typical, kid-free, and you are accompanied by some of your best girl friends? You become a kid again and have the most epic Target trip you could ever imagine. Kicking back on all the plush chairs and throw pillows, taking selfies with all the coffee mugs, having conversation at the patio furniture, and trying on all of the clothes and shoes. Don’t forget to add in lots of wine, buggy rides, and an enormous amount of laughing, and you literally have the most perfect Target trip this Mom has ever had.

This trip is every Mom’s dream. Target is our playground and that is how it has earned the name The Mothership. It has everything we need and everything we didn’t know that we needed. A golden weenie dog tape dispenser? You totally need that! (And I actually have that!) An adorable pen mug with a face? How have you been living without it? Another graphic tee about guacamole? Get in my cart now! Target just gets women, and for that, it will forever hold a special place in my heart!

If you have not done it lately, I highly encourage you to go to Target with your girlfriends, completely kid-free, and just have fun! It was such an amazing day and was exactly what this tired Momma needed. Find your tribe and love them hard, especially when they are willing to act like fools with you at Target!

I hope you enjoyed this epic shoot as much as we did. Life is too short not to have fun every once and while, especially when that fun is at The Mothership. Here is to a morning with girlfriends, a Venti Starbucks, and a newly filled Dollar Spot!

A Little Adventure in Matilda Jane

I have come to find that raising a tiny human is truly the most rewarding thing in the entire world.

Her imagination. Her creativity. Her thirst for life. I am amazed that I brought that tiny little miracle into the world every time that I look at her.

IMG_4455

IMG_4448

With an imagination that big and a smile that sweet, I just love dressing her in the cutest clothes and giving her the coolest toys to play with. Thankfully, I have found some truly amazing companies to make my life as a Mom a little easier.

First up is the adorable clothing company, Matilda Jane. I got lucky in the fact that one of my local Savannah friends is a Trunk Keeper. I love being able to see all of the new pieces as well as all of the sneak peeks of what is to come.

In this outfit, Vivi is wearing the Heartfelt Tunic. I love the fun strawberry print and the fact that the tunic can easily be layered with jeans or leggings. My child LOVES strawberries so she was so excited to wear this cute top. Instead of pants, I chose to layer the tunic with the Square Dance Overall. I cannot get over how cute these overalls are. They are so incredibly soft and the polka detail is absolutely adorable. They are adjustable so she will be able to  wear them for the next few years.

I love Matilda Jane because their fun patterns and prints really capture the essence of childhood. She looks like my baby when she wears their clothes and I love seeing her innocence and curiosity come to life.

Matilda Jane also makes clothes for teens and adults that are super cute. Every piece has a touch of whimsy. Whether it be through a ruffle or a peplum hem, you know that you are getting a special piece, perfect for every girlie-girl or those who are a child at heart.

Another one of our favorite companies is Little Adventures. I have posted about their dress up clothes previously  in another post and we still love them just as much. Feel free to check out the post and see Vivi frolicking around in the Spanish Princess Dress. These dresses are amazing, look very similar to some of our favorite characters, and they can be washed in the washing machine. There have been many days that she wears the dress all day and she loves wearing them out to run errands.

Little Adventures recently released a new product called Novelty Wings. These adorable wings velcro around the neck and have little loop holes for fingers. Once on, Vivi was able to dance around, pretending that she was a butterfly, or imagine that she was a unicorn flying high in the air. Just like their dresses, the wings are machine washable and a super great quality.

Southern Motherhood: A Mom’s Night Out

Through this little world of blogging, I have been privileged to work with so many amazing companies and brands. What is the best is when you get to connect with even more amazing people.

That is exactly what happened when I received an invitation to attend a Mommy Blogger Dinner. A beautiful calligraphy addressed invitation, done by One Nine Design Co., arrived in my mailbox and that was just the first sweet surprise. I was thrilled at the chance for a night out and even more thrilled for a chance to connect with other Mom Bloggers. It is always great to find a group of women that you can connect with on so many different levels.

We all met at the sweetest little house that was rented through Savannah Air BnB. It was quaint and had so much charm, just like the streets of our gorgeous city. I was greeted by some truly gorgeous ladies, a beautiful tablescape designed by our hostesses, Faythe and Kate, and a chilled glass of Barefoot Wine & Bubbly Rose‘. These lovely ladies are both editors over at Beauty & Lifestyle Mommy Magazine. The blooms for the table were provided by Ivory and Beau and they were simply stunning.

We spent some time chatting before we were treated to a yummy meal prepared by Faythe. We enjoyed a fresh Strawberry Salad, followed by Deconstructed Smoked Salmon & Potato Soup. There was also lots of crusty Italian Bread, great for dipping!

The best part of the night came with dessert. It was a decadent Chocolate and Strawberry Cake by Vintage Soul Cakes. It was a masterpiece to look at and a true delight for your taste buds. I was given a very large piece and I have to say that I definitely ate it all.

It truly was an amazing night and it was so nice to be pampered and just relax for an evening. As a Mom, I don’t often get moments like that to myself so it was nice to be able to sit back and enjoy every minute. Each of the ladies that I was privileged to spend the evening with is just a remarkable woman who is really tackling Motherhood like a boss. None of us claims to be perfect, but we all just try to do the best we can it whatever circumstances we are given. We have so many different backgrounds but we were able to connect over the fact that we are Moms. That right there is a unique tribe of women who can tackle whatever life throws at them.

My Little Princess in Little Adventures

Vivi is getting to the age where she loves all things girlie. Baby dolls, tea sets, Barbies… you name it, she loves it! One of the things that she has recently started loving is dressing up in costumes.

IMG_1497

While dressing up is cute and a lot of fun, it can get expensive pretty fast, especially when your child is growing out of her clothes faster than you can buy them. I was thrilled when I found the company Little Adventures because I could get Vivi the costumes of all of the characters that she has come to know and love, without breaking the bank! They are super affordable, very well made and, best part, are machine washable! This is perfect since their are some days when she insist on wearing her Spanish Princess Dress all day, even meal times! Call me crazy but PB&J stains just don’t add anything extra to this beautiful dress.

I love this company because they realize that dressing up is not just for little girls. They have a wide array of costumes perfect for little boys, and even some for us grown-ups! I love dressing up at times and the Cinderella Dress is perfect for living out all of my childhood fantasies.

Extended Nursing: A Look Back on an Amazing Bond

Somehow, time has flown incredibly fast and my sweet babe turned 2 on September 3rd. These past two years with her have been absolutely incredible. I never realized how much I was missing in my life until I became a mother. The day that I birthed that beautiful 7 pound, 11 ounce baby girl was the day that my life truly began. It was a difficult pregnancy and an even more difficult delivery, but it was a worth it the moment I got to hold my little red-headed beauty. I encourage you to check our her birth story when you have time, but today I am here to talk about two years of an amazing bond I shared with my daughter.

Even before I ever knew that I was pregnant, breastfeeding my future child was important to me. It was the one thing that I wanted to be able for my child and I was willing to do whatever it took to make that a reality. As soon as I found out that I was pregnant, I started reading about and learning as much information as I could to be successful in my breastfeeding journey.

While the information that I learned was helpful, I really feel like nothing prepares you for breastfeeding. I would be lying if I said that it was an easy journey. Those first few weeks were hard. I cried through feedings, fought with milk blisters on my nipples and had many sleepless nights.

But I persevered.

After getting through the initial pain, I still had to deal with the sleepless nights. I was very adamant about her not having formula so it was only me that could feed her when she woke up during the night. I hated to give her a bottle when I was home because I struggled with my milk supply. I built up as much of a supply as I was able but, after 8 weeks, I had to return back to work. As a teacher, I had time set aside to pump but I was not always able. Meetings, planning and parent conferences got in the way and so my twice a day pump sessions became just once a day sessions. I was making just enough milk for Vivi to have while I was at work. I had an incredibly small freezer supply so I was constantly worrying what would happen if I spilled milk or had a bad pump session.

But I persevered.

After struggling, I came up with a good regimen that seemed to work to build up my supply. I was taking Motherlove More Milk Plus four times a day, eating Milkmakers Lactation Cookies at least once a day, and I was drinking at least half of my body weight in water. Not only this, but I was waking up before the baby to pump, pumping on the weekends, and pumping during holidays to help build up my freezer supply. It was a lot of hard work. To me, though, it was all worth it. Breastfeeding my daughter was still one of the most important things that I was able to do for her and I loved the fact that I was providing for her. It helped to build a bond between us that can never be replaced.

While I always hoped to make it to 1 year of breastfeeding, I tried to focus on small goals to keep myself motivated and encouraged. First I focused on the first three days, then the first 3 weeks, then the first 3 months, and so on. At the 6 month mark we introduced homemade baby food (Check out my blog post on homemade baby food HERE) and baby led weaning and a knew that my journey was only going to get easier.

My long-term goal was going to become a reality because I had persevered.

The day my daughter turned 1 could not have been happier. Not only was I the mother of a happy, healthy one-year-old, but I had also made it to my goal of  1 year of breastfeeding. Thrilled was an understatement. I was proud of all that I was able to accomplish and amazed that my body was able to provide nourishment for my daughter for an entire year. While we did switch her to almond milk during the day, I was not ready to give up that bond or the ability to provide nutrients for my daughter. I made the decision to continue nursing her in the morning and at night. I think I enjoyed this toddler nursing period, in a lot of ways, more than I did nursing her through infancy. I feel like since the stress of pumping and producing enough was removed from the equation, I was able to focus more on the bond an my ability to both nourish and comfort. It didn’t bother me that Vivi  was essentially using me as a pacifier. She needed me and I wanted to be there for her.

This continue on until this past summer. The morning that Vivi turned 22 months old, I made the decision to wean her. She actually did very well and only asked for her “Boos” twice. When we told her she could have her cup instead, she did just fine and never once cried. It was a truly perfect transition.

Now, as a sit her with my milk completely dried up, I want to encourage you to whatever you think is best for your baby. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that your baby is happy and fed. While we made the decision to not use formula, I have nothing against the mother’s who choose this option and am actually very thankful that an alternative option exists. For some women, breastfeeding is just not a possibility or an option. It is truly amazing that we live during a time when a food source is available to our babies other than a mother’s milk. I cannot imagine not having that option. I also want to encourage you to believe in yourself. Is breastfeeding is something that you want for your child, believe and know that you are capable. There is so many different options to help and encourage you through this period. Seek support! Some many different resources are available to new moms!

I leave you with one final word of encouragement.

You are not alone.

No matter what it is that you are going through in your breastfeeding journey, please know that you are never alone. There have probably been thousands of women, myself included, that are feeling or experiencing exactly what you are going through. Through all of this, my biggest encouragement and support was from other breastfeeding Mommas. They constantly encouraged, offered advice and even brought me lactation cookies! As women, we really do need to stand together, especially in times like this. It won’t always be easy, but is possible and, for me, the joy that I experienced from this bond was worth way more than any troubles or pain!

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to share your own breastfeeding journey! I always love to hear from you!
