End of the Year Blues and Blue Hues

Y’all! It has definitely been a hot minute since I have been able to sit down and actually write a blog post! As a teacher, this is my busiest time of the year. I am so grateful that the end of the year is finally here and I can enjoy an entire summer with my sweet Vivi, but it is definitely bitter sweet because I will miss my sweet Kinders who I have come to love like my own over these past  10 months!

I felt that this dress was more than appropriate to star in my journey back to blogging. The rich, gorgeous navy blue is more than appropriate for all of my end of the year activities and the lace overlay adds a sense of fun and whimsy. I love that it can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. For this look, I opted for the must have sandals of the season. While the designer version can cost around $170, these were a steal at $59.99! They come in three different colors and are seriously so comfortable! I recently took my daughter to the zoo and wore them all day with no problem. For a dressier look, this dress would look great with a strappy pair of heels or classic pumps and for a fun, relaxed look, it would also look great with a pair of cowboy boots!

This super versatile dress is from the sweetest company, Pink Blush. While they originally got their start selling the cutest maternity clothes, they quickly branched out into clothing to fit everyone woman’s need, no matter what stage they happened to be in life. With sizes varying from Women’s to Women’s Plus and Maternity to Maternity Plus, there really is something for every woman on their site. They also have nursing friendly clothes and accessories and a large variety of jewelry, scarves and other accessories. With reasonable prices, fast shipping and frequent sales, I am sure you will quickly fall in love with this company.

Now, lets get back to my fast approaching summer break. A definite perk of being a teacher is being able to have the summer off. I really enjoy this time now that I have a daughter because it is two sweet, uninterrupted months that I am able to give her my undivided attention. What really bothers me though is when people claim that a teacher has it so easy because they get summers off. Ask any teacher and I can almost guarantee you that they will be spending the summer to prepare for the next school year. Personally, as soon as I am able to get into the building, I will be at the school setting up my classroom for next year. I will be making copies, putting together new centers, laminating supplies and sorting games. Since it is the summer, I will be using my own money to purchase the supplies necessary to complete these tasks and much of them will be done in an hot classroom since the air conditioner will not yet be switched to on. These hours worked at the school will be on my time and unpaid. When I am not at the school I will be perusing Pinterest for new ideas, making manipulatives in between diaper changes and laundry and purchasing an never ending supply of paper of printer ink to print out all that is necessary to start out the school year. And this is just what I will be doing this summer!

Let’s not forget that long hours that were put in during the school year! My school day started at 7am, Monday – Friday. We were allowed to leave at 3pm every afternoon. The key word there is allowed. There were many days that I stayed until 4, 5, even 6, especially at the beginning of the school year! There is always so much to get done and you rarely have time during the school day to do anything but teach. Your planning period is used for meetings, conferences and professional development so you have no choice  but to plan on your own time. Then, when you finally do go home, you lug a big bag of papers to grade, sort, enter and file. You are required to stay late for PTA Meetings, Chorus Concerts, Basketball Games and Carnivals and can often be found at school on Saturday morning just trying to get a handle on everything. You buy snacks, candy and treats for the kids in your class and when grocery shopping, throw in packs of glue sticks to replenish your low stock. (I swear that my students must eat these things with how often we run through our supply!)

I could also go into detail about how many teachers work second jobs in the summer. Many teachers work summer school, summer camps, tutor or even get jobs at their local mall or grocery store to help supplement the low teacher salary. This means that their break, from all the hard work put in during the school year, is no longer a break. But that really is a whole other conversation in itself, so I won’t elaborate any further.

And even though you break your back, spend your last penny and neglect your own family, you would not change a thing, because being a teacher is in your blood. It gives your life meaning and you would not change it for anything. It is worth every hardship, every tear, every late night. You love those students as if they were your own and are happy to be there for them in any way that is needed.

You are a teacher.

So the next time you or someone you know goes to say that teaching is easy and that teachers have it made, just stop. The 7am-3pm, 190 days a year, is just the tip of the iceberg that goes into this life changing profession. Instead, tell them you are thankful for all that they do, or stand up for the work they put in during the school year. There is no tired like teacher tired. The break is nice and it is very much deserved, but it rarely used as a true break. A teacher will remain a teacher 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. You can’t turn it off. It is who you are.

You are a teacher.

Can You See Me?

I am camouflaged! Can you see me?

I have had these camo skinnies for years, and lately, I have been wearing them non-stop. I love seeing all of the different ways that I can mix them up and just how many outfits that I can make out of them. It is fun to create something completely new out of a very distinct pair of pants. I have to say that this pairing is one of my absolute favorites. It has such rich, vibrant colors that it is hard not to love this outfit.

My mustard sweater was a steal at my local H&M and I love the oversized fit. I paired it with a darker wash chambray to really play up the richness of the colors in this outfit and I love the result. Pieces like this are definite neutrals in my closet because they truly do go with so many things. I have at least 5 chambrays of varying colors in my closet because, for me, I would much rather where that on days that I don’t know what to wear, instead of a t-shirt. As for oversized sweaters, I tend to gravitate towards the ones that are made of thinner fabrics. Living in South Georgia means that I really don’t get a Winter so their is really no need for something thick and bulky. The thinner sweaters can easily be paired with shorts in the Spring to give me more bang for my buck and a wider variety in my wardrobe.

I keep my accessories on the neutral side since I had gone with vibrancy in my clothing choices. You can’t beat a great nude pump and I love the heel height on this pair. As a teacher, I am constantly on my feet so I really need comfort when trying on a pair of shoes. I tend to wear flats most often but, lately, I have been trying to add some great heels into the mix. A kitten heel is perfect for giving me a little extra height while also keeping my feet happy! My clutch was purchase at a J. Crew Clearance store a few years ago and it was less than $10! Did I mention it is real leather?! Also, if you have never had the chance to go to a J. Crew Clearance store then you are missing out! They have amazing prices. Like an outlet on steroids! The one we went to was right outside Asheville in North Carolina and I will definitely be visiting it again this Summer!

My jewelry is, of course, Kendra Scott. If you haven’t guessed already, I am a little obsessed with the collection. My necklace was from the Winter launch and my ring was from the Spring launch. Next week, the Summer collection hits stores and I am beyond excited! Vibrant colors, bead and tassels are just a few things to be featured on the new pieces so stay tuned! I am so excited to go check it out and I will definitely be featuring all of my faves on the blog!

How are your favorite ways to wear camo? Let me know in the comments! I love to hear from you!

Got A Secret. Can You Keep It?

I don’t know about you, but now that it is April, this girl over here is beyond excited for the new season of Pretty Little Liars. I have to be honest. I was not a follower from day one. I didn’t even start watching until this past Christmas on my break from teaching. Thanks to Netflix, the obsession literally grew overnight to the Pretty Little Liars fan that I am now. I watched every single episode in a month. That is dedication!

To get you all even more excited, I have teamed up with my sweet friend Amy of Magically Made Tees to share some super fun shirts, just in time for the April 18th premiere. There is quite a few shirts in the collection but I am going to share with you my two favorites today. The first is one that I actually helped Amy design! The front of the shirt says, “I Run on Lipstick and Lies,” while the back of the shirt of the shirt says, “Kisses -A.” I am so excited with how the shirt turned out and I have to say that it makes me even more anxious for the premiere! I can’t wait to finally find out who Uber A is and see if the Liars triumph!

The next shirt supports my favorite on screen couple: Aria and Ezra! Any other Ezria fans out there?! I am hoping that finding Nicole alive does nothing to hurt their future together! He proposed! They were engaged! Surely that has to count for something! I am holding on to hope that this couple will be saying their “I Do’s” before the final season is over. Until then, I will just support them through my Team Ezria shirt. I love how Amy made the A in team look like the A from the show. It is such a fun detail that really helps the shirt to stand out. Not a Team Ezria fan? No problem! She also has Team Spoby and Team Haleb!

Even if you are not a Pretty Little Liars fan, I encourage you to check out her shop! She has so many cute Disney shirts and even a few Mom shirts! Also, be sure to head to my Instagram, BeingMrsFowler, because I am doing a fun giveaway to celebrate the Pretty Little Liars premiere! Amy and I are teaming up to give away a shirt and a Lipsense Starter Kit! If you really do run on Lipstick & Lies, then this is the perfect giveaway for you!

Lots of Layers

I don’t know about your weather, but the weather in Savannah has been crazy. One day it is almost 80 degrees and the next it is has dropped below 30. Some days, there is even a difference of 40 degrees in one day! How do you even dress for that? Luckily, I have learned to layer like a pro so I am comfortable all day long.

This look was perfect for a day out exploring out beautiful city. No matter how they weather changed during the day, I was able to add or remove layers to stay comfortable. I started with the cutest LuLaRoe Carly dress. Instead of wearing it as a dress I knotted it on the side so it could be worn as a tunic. The Carly is a super versatile dress and can be worn so many ways. I have worn mine as a dress, with leggings and knotted. Recently I saw a video on how to fold it and tie to be worn as a wrap dress and I cannot wait to try that look. Since I was wearing the Carly as a tunic I paired it with my favorite pairs of black skinny jeans. One of my favorite places to buy skinny jeans is Old Navy. They are already at a great price point but they are also usually on sale and they  even have coupons!

For some added warmth, I threw on one of my favorite cardigans. It is also from Old Navy and it is literally perfect. It is is oversized, has the cutest details and is a great, neutral color. I have had it forever but I will link something similar below. My shoes are fabulous and are from JustFab. They are leopard espadrilles with stud detail around the ankle. They are the reason that I decided to join. If you are not familiar, JustFab is a monthly shoe subscription. For just $39.99 a month, you can get a new pair of shoes or save your credit until something you like better comes along. They are constantly getting new styles and they also have handbags and clothes that you can choose to purchase instead of shoes. What I like best is that if new shoes are just not in your budget that month, you can choose to skip the month and will not be charged! Just don’t forget to skip! I have gotten some seriously cute shoes at a great price so you should definitely consider checking them out!

I kept the rest of my accessories simple so that the bold color of my dress remained the star. I went with a basic cognac colored clutch, a fun hat and some of my favorite Kendra Scott jewelry. I use to be one of those people that felt like I couldn’t wear hats but I really believe that it is about finding the right hat for you. I searched for months for the perfect hat to fit the shape of my head and lucked up with this brown beauty from Target. It perfectly fits with my boho style and matches with so much in my wardrobe. I can easily wear it year round so I really get a lot of use out of this piece. As I mentioned, my necklace and ring are from Kendra Scott. I absolutely love this brand and everything that Kendra does to give back. If you are lucky enough to have a Kendra Scott store in your area then you can be sure that they are constantly giving back to you community. I never feel bad when I make a purchase with them because I know that much of the profits are going to benefit something great.

Remember that many of the pieces in your closet are versatile year round as long as you know how to layer them. Play with different layers or add a knot, just learn what works for you and the climate in which you live. Making your pieces more versatile is the key to simplifying your wardrobe. While I do love clothes, and probably shop way more than I should, I really try to think about the versatility of piece before I purchase. It needs to be able to be worn multiple ways, must work in multiple seasons and needs to be able to match multiple outfits. If I follow those rules when shopping, I know that I am getting something of quality for my wardrobe that will definitely be worn and be put to good use! Let me know if you have any questions or if you want to share your favorite way to layer. I always love to hear from you!

Old Navy Style

I absolutely love to shop. I am sure that this is absolutely not a shock to anyone who reads my blog. The thrill of finding the perfect piece, the excitement of being able to wear something new and the joy of pairing together outfits are all temporary highs that I love to experience. One store in particular has been a part of that excitement for as long as I can remember.

That store just happens to be Old Navy. Once upon a time we did not even have an Old Navy store in Savannah so the excitement of being able to shop in one provided an even greater high when I would travel and find one to spend all of my money. Old Navy has always been a great place to shop. They have cute clothes at a great price point and they boast a wide variety of sizes. They are always having a great sale and they even usually have an active coupon. Lately though, my love for them has grown even more because they have been KILLING it with their styles and options.

This entire look is from Old Navy and to say that I am obsessed would be an understatement. It has so many versatile pieces that I can use throughout all of the seasons. I originally went it to find mustard colored pants, I know, strange request, but they had one pair left and it was my size! It was fate! With that much luck with my pants, I just had to find a top to match. This peplum was on the mannequin and it was gorgeous. I looked all over the store for it without look so I tracked down the nicest sales associate who gladly pointed it out to me. It has so many great colors once I was able to look at it up close that I knew that it needed to come home with me!

The jacket was a purchase that I made on a whim. The color was great and I am always layering in my wardrobe. As a teacher, I need options to dress up my outfits depending on what I am doing that day. I blazer is a great way to dress up any outfit and give it a more polished look. I also love that this blazer was longer. It gives off a longer silhouette and adds some unexpected details to the outfit. My favorite thing though, was the material. It is a light-weight cotton blend that has this fun, patterned texture. Discreet lines add a fun detail and really takes this blazer from polished and pretty to fun and fabulous. Can you imagine how fun it will be in the Spring and Summer with a pair of shorts?! Perfect for Date Night or a night with the girls!

I loved the neutral vibe that the blazer added to my outfit so I tried to mimic that in my accessories. Beige accessories are great because you can wear them with literally anything. They compliment every color in the rainbow and look great on any skin tone. I love them because they are also unexpected. Handbags and shoes are usually colored because, lets face it, white, beige and cream all get dirty! When wearing this color you do have to be careful, but that is part of the fun! Living on the edge with your wardrobe and breaking all of the style rules is part of the fun of getting dressed! While all of my accessories are older, I have linked similar items for you below.

Valentine’s Inspiration: Galentine’s with Girlfriends

Continuing with my Valentine’s inspiration, I am back with a fun Galentine’s look, perfect for spending the day with a great group of gal pals!

I really think that Valentine’s day is so much more than just being with a significant other. I have been blessed with so many absolutely amazing women in my life that I love to celebrate them on this day as well! I am looking forward to a planned get together with some fabulous woman and I know that this look will be perfect! It is flirty, fun and filled with my favorite color, pink! And you never go empty handed to a Galentine’s get together so Kendra Scott is the perfect way to spoil my friends! What’s in the box? Well that is a surprise giveaway that will be going live on my Instagram on Valentine’s day! Stay tuned!

Blush is one of my absolute favorite colors of the moment so I really wanted that color to be the main focus of my outfit. It is so soft a feminine and I really think it is the perfect color for celebrating the women in your life. I went with the cutest blush skinnies and paired them with this floral tunic. Technically I think it is a dress but it was a little short for my modest taste. I threw on my favorite cardigan that is both cute and comfy. Looking fabulous doesn’t mean you have to be uncomfortable. If an item is both cute and cozy then that is a definite must in my life.

I used my accessories to pull the rich cranberry color out of the dress. My pumps are velvet and were an absolute steal at Old Navy over Christmas break. They were an online return that just happened to be in my size. They also just happened to be $12 so there was no way I was leaving them behind. They are surprisingly comfortable and that makes me just a little bit obsessed. I also wore one of my fave Kendra Scott necklaces that echoed that same cranberry color.

My handbag was the perfect shade to match the outfit. It is both leather and suede so it has some really fun textures. It is from the Kate Spade outlet not far from my house and was on super sale. If you have a Kate Spade outlet near your house I encourage you to check it frequently. They are always having major sales and most of them can be found in the back of the store. In the back of the store bags are marked down and then have an additional discount on top of that. I have gotten numerous bags for less than $100 which is great deal for Kate Spade.

I really think that the bottom line when hanging out with your girlfriends is to just be you. These are the women who love you know matter what. They support you and will be there for you if you are dressed to the nines or rocking sweats and a top knot. Be cute, be comfortable, but just be yourself!

Happy Galentine’s Day Girlfriends!

Valentine’s Inspiration: A Dreamy Date Night

Valentine’s Day is almost here so I just wanted to pop in over the next few days to share some inspiration with you! Whether you are single, dating, married or just hanging out with girlfriends, I will have something for you! First up, a dreamy date night look!

For this look, I decided to wear this amazing dress from Modest Maimi. Modest Maimi is an amazing company that sells tons of gorgeous dresses that are all modest. As a Mom and a teacher, they are perfect for my busy life. I know that, even if I am running late, I can throw on one of my gorgeous dresses and still look polished and put together. They also portray a modest image which is perfect for my profession. I also love the fact that it is teaching my daughter that you don’t have to dress sexy to look nice. Modesty is hot and it good to leave a lot to the imagination.

When I saw this dress I knew that it would be perfect for Valentine’s Day. The color is rich and vibrant and it can easily be dressed up or down. It also has the most amazing tiered sleeves to give it some fun detail. To dress up the dress I paired it with a pair of black tights and a classic pair of black pumps.

I kept my accessories simple and went with a fun statement necklace and the cutest fur clutch. The statement necklace was a designer inspired steal for less than $10! I got my fur clutch from the cutest little jewelry boutique while on vacation in Gatlinburg over Christmas break and I knew that it would be perfect for a fun night on the town! I went with a bold, red lip since I was not wearing much jewelry. The best thing about this lipstick? It doesn’t smudge, smear or need reapplying! Perfect for all those Valentine kisses! The brand is Lipsense and I am excited to say that I recently became a distributor! Stay tuned because a blog post is coming up soon about why I chose to invest in this amazing company! In the mean time, I will tag my group below so you can shop my inventory! So many pretties to choose from!

The important thing to remember about any Valentine look, and really anything that you choose to wear, is to exude confidence. If you are confident in what you are wearing then it is going to show through and you will look fabulous! Knowing you look fabulous is sure to put a smile on your face and that is truly the best accessory that you can wear! I would love to know what you are wearing for Valentine’s! Let me know in the comments below. I could even learn something from you!
